The Seven Seals of the Apocalypse contains English translations of fifteen Latin Apocalypse commentaries written between the years 500 and 1500, and illustrates the vastness of medieval interpretative traditions on the seven seals of Revelation 5-8.

Some medieval Christians associated the seven seals with seven events in the life of Christ. Others taught that they contained symbols about life in the Church between the first and second comings of Christ. Others viewed the seals as milestones in a grand outline of salvation history; and still others interpreted them as descriptions of tragedies that will take place before Judgment Day.

Not available in English translation elsewhere, these texts include works by Apringius of Beja, Caesarius of Arles, Cassiodorus, pseudo-Jerome, Alcuin of York, Hugh of St. Cher, Nicholas of Gorran, Joachim of Fiore, Peter Auriol, the Irish Reference Bible, the Celtic Catechism, and more. A great resource for readers interested in medieval studies, patristics, Biblical interpretation, prophecy, apocalyptic studies, and the Book of Revelation.
